The Basingstoke Area Youth String Orchestra play a variety of music from classical to contemporary.
As well as performing in the main BAYOC concerts, the Orchestra have successfully taken part at the Basingstoke Music Festival and have performed with other Hampshire string orchestras in concerts at the Anvil.
BAYSO has attended training weekends at Avon Tyrell in the New Forest with other Basingstoke ensembles. These have been a great experience for the Orchestra, both musically and socially.
They have also performed in Basingstoke’s twin town of Euskirchen where they performed concerts.
Towards the end of the summer term, there is an open rehearsal when potential new players can come along and experience playing in the Orchestra, but new members are welcome throughout the year. The standard of players is from grade 4 upwards, and many players enjoy attending so much that they stay on to the end of their school education.
Hampshire Music Service co-ordinates bands, ensembles, orchestras and choirs for children and young people, all over Hampshire. The service organises some 400 performances every year, which can range from small gatherings of musicians and their families, to large events in public venues such as Winchester Cathedral, The Anvil and even The Royal Albert Hall. The service also supports schools to provide quality music tuition and affordable instrument hire to pupils.
Hampshire Music Service charges a fee for Ensemble Membership, which during the school year 2022-2023, is £35 per term and for County Ensemble Membership is £45 per term. If your child belongs to more than one ensemble you will only pay one fee.
